One of the lesser-known activities around Berkeley Springs and Panhandle West Virginia is biking. Most visitors, whether for a day trip or those staying in the area, look for nearby hiking trails, water sports, in-town strolling, and window shopping. You can choose from many bike trails in the area, all with different difficulty levels. You'll find everything from flat, easy-to-moderate trails to steep and challenging climbs requiring skill and strength. You can also choose to ride your bike on the road or on dirt roads if that interests you more.
Just be sure to wear appropriate clothing, including helmets, gloves, and shoes with good traction.
Mountain Bike Trails in Cacapon State Park
Cacapon Big Loop
This fantastic circuit begins and ends beside the swimming lake at the bottom. While the traditional Central Trail incorporates more tough rock riding, the new trail portions are flowier.
South Prospect Rock Trail
Length: 3 miles
Distance from our cabin: 15 min drive
The Overlook Trail is linked to the route network of Cacapon State Park via this lovely, easy ridge trail. The loop path to the north, which is the most rideable and feeds into the fantastic Ziler Loop and Central Trail, approximately a third of the way down the mountain, is the finest route. It has moderate, grassy hills and is wide and green. Before you see the turnoff to the right for the Ziler Loop Trail, it seems you have been on this for a lengthy time. This walk may also be extended on the North Prospect Rock Trail for a spectacular view of Berkeley Springs and the valley.
North Prospect Rock Trail
Length: 6.6 miles
Distance from our cabin: 15 min drive
A 12-mile fire road and level hiking route around the summit of Cacapon Mountain may be accessible from Cacapon State Park to get to the unusual rock formations. The climb up to the trailhead can be challenging, so be ready! Although the route is initially relatively flat or rolling, a substantial drop can be difficult for first-timers.

Take your time and savor the trip; you'll travel through several Mid-Atlantic picturesque locations.
